天才就是1%的灵感加上99%的汗水
我们都以为是“天才那就是1%的灵感加上99%的汗水”.当然,这句话本身并没有被偷梁换柱,但教材偏偏每次都漏掉后面那关键的一句话：“但那1%的灵感是最重要的,甚至比那99%的汗水都要重要”.大家可以看到,没有后面的这句话,全句的意义就完全改变了.爱迪生当然是个天才,他也是相信天才的（他曾经多次把福特叫做“天才”）；他对天才持一种“有条件的承认”的态度,即天才是最重要的,但天才也需要努力.爱迪生承认努力,但他归根结底更重视灵感.

在Harper's Monthly (September 1932)发布的关于爱迪生的文可以说是第一次说爱迪生说了Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.这句话，没有下半句。
一般认为这句话提炼自1929的一次发布会，在发布会中爱迪生说了None of my inventions came by accident. I see a worthwhile need to be met and I make trial after trial until it comes. What it boils down to is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.依旧没有下半句，而且很明显他在说的是勤奋的作用。
另外一次他说的版本是："Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration. Accordingly, a 'genius' is often merely a talented person who has done all of his or her homework."依旧是在说勤奋的作用。
爱迪生本人就从来没有说过类似于但没有“这1%的灵感那99%的汗水也是徒劳这样的下半句。”
